Running Accomplishments:

Ran first marathon after 18 months of training (minus injury time) at age 52 in Logan, Utah on Sept 18, 2010.  Time was 4:16:56 compared to a goal of 4:15.

Second marathon was Oct 1, 2011 in the heat of St George.  Time fell to 4:52:27.

Short-Term Running Goals:

With two marathons behind me, my next goal is to run one in under 4 hours and potentially qualify for Boston within 2 years.

Long-Term Running Goals:

My primary physical goal is to live a long, healthy life and to stay active to the end.  While I can, I expect running to be a big part of that.

Personal:

Married with 8 children and 5 grandchildren.  Youngest child is 13.

Low heart rate all the way, average of 128bpm, maximum 136bpm.  Average speed (or rather average slow) was 13:05/minute.  Temperature was 10 degrees warmer than yesterday, which made for a very nice run.  For some reason, I come back frozen when it is below freezing and refreshed when it is 40 degrees.  One good thing about the slow runs is how good I feel after.  I don't feel beat up at all.  The bad thing is how early I have to get up for a short distance.

This is impressive. If you are willing to run 13s (off of a half marathon pace in the low 8s), you will be able to stay in the game for a long time. I think slow runs are the key to building fitness without getting injured, especially for old guys like you, but it takes patience and a total lack of shame. The 13s won't last forever. Good job.
